Tip of the Week: Shortcuts for Your Internet Browsing Convenience

People are spending a lot of time online, especially as of late, with many working remotely and using tools and resources sourced through the Internet. In light of this, it seems to be an opportune time to review a few useful shortcuts that can help speed up one’s Internet browsing.

Dealing with Tabs

Browser tabs are a great tool, particularly if your attention needs to be split between a few different websites. The utility of these browser tabs only increases when a few keyboard shortcuts are used to augment them.

For instance, opening a new tab is as simple as pressing Ctrl + T, as is opening a new window by pressing Ctrl + N. If this browser tab shouldn’t have its history saved, you can open a private browser window by pressing Ctrl + Shift + T.

Once you have your tabs all arranged and seen to, it can be made much simpler to switch between them. Pressing Ctrl + Tab will cycle forward through them, while pressing Ctrl + Shift + Tab will cycle back.

Rapid Navigation

Let’s say you’ve finished with one website and need to navigate to another. Rather than taking the time to move your hand to the mouse and back again (which can all add up over time), a few simple keyboard shortcuts can jump your cursor up to the address bar. Your options are:

  • Alt + D
  • Ctrl + L
  • F6

Refresh the Page

We can all use a bit of a refresh at times, and your browser window is no exception. It’s simple to do in your browser by pressing either Ctrl + R or F5.

Hopefully, this will help you work in your browser a little bit faster, and while the gains made might not seem like much, they’ll hopefully build up into real productivity benefits.
