Reassure your customers that you’re proactively defending your IT infrastructure and attract new business with the guarantee of robust security measures.

Most cyber attacks are basic – the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. Cyber Essentials helps you bolt your door against the most common cyber attacks.

Our support can cover:

What does Cyber Essentials involve?

Prevent 80% of common cyber attacks by correctly implementing the Cyber Essentials controls.

Secure Configuration

Set up computers securely to minimise ways that a cyber-criminal can find a way in

User access control

Control who can access your data and services and what level of access they have

Malware protection

Identify and immobilise viruses or other malicious software before it has a chance to cause harm

Security update management

Prevent cyber criminals using vulnerabilities they find in software as an access point to your systems

Firewalls

Install a security filter between network devices and the internet to prevent unauthorised access.

Cyber Essentials operates as a self-assessment questionnaire. Organisations complete a series of questions covering the scope of the assessment, employees, devices, and work locations.

The questionnaire also addresses the five core controls:

> User access control

> Secure configuration

> Security update management

> Firewalls and routers

> Malware protection

All responses must be approved by a board member or equivalent. An independent assessor then reviews and verifies the answers.

Cyber Essentials certificate pricing is based on organisation size:

0–9 Employees: £320 + VAT

10–49 Employees: £440 + VAT

50–249 Employees: £500 + VAT

250+ Employees: £600 + VAT

Cyber Essentials PLUS> includes the online self-assessment as well as an audit of your IT systems to ensure your compliance — completed by our in-house cyber experts and partners. The verified self-assessment questionnaire of Cyber Essentials is a prerequisite to Cyber Essentials Plus. Although based on the same technical requirements, Cyber Essentials Plus includes a technical audit of your IT systems to verify that the controls are in place. In this way, it gives more assurance that you are complying with the scheme. The audit covers a representative set of user devices, all internet gateways, and all servers with services accessible to the internet. Cyber Essentials Plus is priced according to the size and complexity of your network.

British National Cyber Security Centre

The British National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has produced two informative videos highlighting the benefits of Cyber Essentials for businesses, including how it helps maintain security and operates within larger supply chains.

The UK Government is currently working towards making Cyber Essentials certification a standard requirement for all businesses. At present, however, only certain sectors are required to comply.

Who must currently have Cyber Essentials in the UK?

  • Public Sector Contracts: Businesses supplying the NHS, local authorities, or other government bodies must hold Cyber Essentials certification.

  • Government Contracts: Suppliers bidding for central government contracts that involve handling sensitive or personal information are required to be certified.
